Tasting Notes
Nose
The smoke is calmed by the marine, ozone character. Time has brought a balance, a harmony in the combination of oak, smoke and spirit. While the smoke is always discernible on the nose it is dry, earthy, peat- ash in its style and so allows the oak to come forward with waves of golden caramel, fudge, vanilla custard, hints of ginger, nutmeg and clove. There is citrus fruit, coaxed from the glass with a drop of water, gentle lemon meringue and clementine. Breathe deeply and the floral aromas of wild thyme, heather and sea pink bring you to this Atlantic coast.
Palate
On the palate there is a noticeable delicacy and softness in texture and style. Again, the balance of flavour is superb as the smoke wraps loosely around the sweetness drawn from deep within the oak. Coconut, vanilla custard, lemon honey combines with smoked oysters and sun baked salty sand.
Finish
The finish is sublime, smoky sure, but also the soft sweetness of fudge and malted barley, orange, mango and Banoffee pie hinting of the depth and quality of the oak. The many layers interchange on each sip. As the smoke comes and goes so too the notes of the spirit, ripe apple and apricot, beautifully intertwined with malt and oak sweetness and that typical port charlotte style dry smoke.
CHARACTER
Ageing for 10 years on the shores of Lochindaal has had a profound effect on this spirit. Like sunshine on a winters day, this Port Charlotte 10 brings clarity and lightens the mood, welcoming and brightening the future.

Good peaty Scotch whisky that is more balanced than Laphroig
To describe a scotch requires us to use words that don't typically go together. In this case, I am getting seaweed and corn flakes in flavor with a honey aroma. All in, it's a well-balanced whiskey that is maybe in need of a couple drops of water. The smoke is enticing but not overpowering.

A good flavorful Scotch that is a solid offering
Having tried the Classic Laddie for a previous review, I was excited to try the Port Charlotte 10 by Bruichladdich, as it is a more premium offering at a more premium price point. One of my items of feedback for the Classic Laddie was the look and feel of the bottle, and I feel in this instance, they got it right. It looks and feels like a good scotch offering. For my review, as you can see in the photos and video that I tried it neat to give my full unbiased review. When you open the bottle, you can smell the smokiness of it. This is a welcome smell for me, as I like scotches with a similar taste palette. At first taste, it reminded me a lot of Lagavuiln 16, which is at a similar yet usually slightly higher price point. But overall, I have to say I was impressed. Between the 2 scotches of theirs that I tried, this was my favorite of the 2 and is one I could see myself drinking more. Where could I see a scotch like this thriving? Cocktail bars, airport lounges, hotel bars etc. I would gladly have a glass of this when arriving to a hotel to decompress and unwind. Is this one I would drink normally at home? To be honest, it would depend on the price point I get it at. Would I spend full retail? Probably not if I'm being honest. There's so many scotches out there that I look for (particularly in a duty free store) that I covet at the same price. However, that doesn't mean that I wouldn't be opposed to it, or receiving it as a gift. It's a solid scotch that I feel has a lot of potential to grow in popularity: I was incentivized for my unbiased review. If you like smokey scotches, this is a good one for you to try!
